Goa is still India’s favourite beach holiday, and for good reason: sun, sea, Portuguese-era churches, spice farms, forts and some of the best seafood in the country, all in a state small enough to explore in a few days. If you are planning a Goa trip from Delhi, Noida or anywhere in North India, this guide covers when to go, where to stay, what to see and how much it costs.
Best time to visit Goa
- November to February (peak season): Pleasant weather, calm seas and the full beach-shack scene. Christmas and New Year are the busiest and most expensive weeks, so book early.
- March to May (summer): Hotter and more humid, but fewer crowds and better hotel deals.
- June to September (monsoon): Lush green countryside and waterfalls at their best. Many beach shacks close and the sea is rough, but hotel prices drop sharply. Ideal for a quiet, budget getaway.
North Goa or South Goa?
North Goa is lively. Baga, Calangute, Anjuna and Vagator have the nightlife, flea markets, watersports and cafés. It suits friends, groups and first-time visitors.
South Goa is quieter. Palolem, Agonda and Colva have long, clean beaches and relaxed resorts. It suits couples, families and anyone who wants to unwind.
Our tip: if you have 3 nights, base yourself in North Goa and take one day trip south. If you have 4 nights or more, split your stay between the two.
Top things to do in Goa
